toothpasteI make a mean skin exfoliant – and now I’ve found a great homemade toothpaste concoction! This alone whitens teeth better than any other toothpaste I’ve tried thus far.

– 6 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/4 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide (Pharmacy grade, 10 volume, 3%)
– 2 tablespoons coconut oil (heated until it liquifies)
– 10 drops peppermint, clove, or citrus pure essential oil (optional)

Put baking soda in a bowl, add the other ingredients and mix until you achieve a proper paste texture. Add a small amount of baking soda if it’s runny; add more coconut oil if it’s too dry. Taste, and add more essential oil if you want a more flavorful paste. Store in an opaque container (required to protect the hydrogen peroxide) and use as usual.

A Little About The Ingredients:

Baking Soda, or bicarbonate of soda, is a gentle alkaline powder that cleans, whitens and also has anti-inflammatory properties. Baking soda will also draw out toxins which makes it a wonderful ingredient for your homemade toothpastes. You can find baking soda at any grocery store. Try not to buy Arm & Hammer. They test their products on animals.

Coconut Oil has so many great uses. Used here, it balances the abrasiveness of the baking soda. Coconut oil has anti-viral and anti-microbial properties and is nice for inflamed or sensitive gums and teeth. Always use cold-pressed or expeller pressed coconut oil which can be found in most healthy grocery stores. pep

Hydrogen Peroxide is actually an acid, though it is a weak one. Most dentists use hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching agent, and it can also be used to help kill germs that cause sore throats or to cleanse wounds. Hydrogen peroxide uses the acid to bleach the germs that discolor teeth, which is what causes the teeth to appear so white. Using hydrogen peroxide for bleaching is one of the best and safest ways to bleach your teeth, and you will find that most bleaching treatments actually utilize hydrogen peroxide as one of the main ingredients. Most dentists have been using hydrogen peroxide safely and habitually for decades, and it has been proven to be one of the most effective methods of keeping your teeth white.
