I will keep adding to this post, the more I test out different cruelty-free deodorants. For those of you who are not familiar with the term ‘cruelty-free’, it means the final product, nor any of its ingredients are tested on animals. Testing beauty products on animals is barbaric and completely unnecessary. As of this month, Europe has banned the practice, selling and importing of any cosmetic or beauty product tested on animals. Hopefully the rest of the world will follow Europe’s example. Visit PETA  website for lists of companies that do and do not test. Mind you, not all companies are listed, so sometimes you have to contact the company itself to investigate. Be wary if you are told that the ‘final product’ is not tested on animals, because this usually means that the ingredients, in fact, are tested on animals. Gross!

My Review:

While it goes on smoothly, and smells glorious, it does not serve as a great deodorant. After a short period of time, it seems to wear off, leaving me sweating and smelling ‘not so fresh’ if you get my drift. It may be suitable for low-key days when you’re not very active. But for a person on the go, all the time, like me : not really your best bang for your buck.

2) Tom’s of Maine Naturally Dry Antiperspirant Deodorant – $8.00 Canadian IDToMs_AP_Naturally_Dry_Powder_Fresh_LG

My Review:

While it does a good job of keeping you dry for most of the day, it’s quite difficult to apply. It has quite chalky and dry texture that it likely flakes when struggling to apply. Furthermore,  it’s very easy to get all over your clothes! I do not f ind this product ‘user friendly’. The scent is light, that’s a plus, but this is not your usual ‘apply and go’ pit-stick. It takes a bit of effort to make sure you have the area covered.

3) Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Women’s Deodorant – $9.00 CanadianTOM-66525-1

Hops inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Sourced from castor beans and the mineral zinc, zinc ricinoleate is known to help trap odour molecules and absorb bad smells. Natural fragrance helps mask odour. Yeah right. But we’ll cover more of why I say this in the review portion.

Features:

  • 100% Natural
  • Cruelty Free
  • Clinically tested 24 hour odor protection
  • Conditions and soothes the skin
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Package contains 40% recycled plastic

Formulated Without:

  • No Parabens
  • No PG
  • Does not contain artificial or animal ingredients

Ingredients: Propanediol (100% Vegetable Derived), Water, Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Leaf Juice (Organic), Zinc Ricinoleate, Glyceryl Laurate, Natural Fragrance, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Humulus Lupulus (hops) Extract (C02), Tocopheryl Acetate, Organic Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sunflower).

My Review:

I hate to say it but this is the worst deodorant I have tried to-date.  First off, I do not like the scent. It’s called “Beautiful Earth” but smells more like fermenting fruit to me!  It turns quite sticky shortly after it’s applied, and it actually made me very itchy! It did not protect agains odour or wetness. I have never had a problem with body odour, and I found this deodorant almost promoted it. Maybe it was my body’s reaction to the fermenting fruit. Ha ha. I give this one 2 thumbs down! After a couple of uses I gave it to my sister. I have yet to hear about her experience with this product. If it differs, I will definitely add her thoughts to this review.

My Review:

Best. Deodorant. Ever. Super easy to use: roll on after a shower while you’re still damp. OR – wet, then apply. Not sticky, no scent, and it WORKS. Also, they last a long time. I think I will definitely have this stick for at least 6 months. Totally worth it.
